A free ten-lesson course for Gran Turismo 7

Tune your own car. Stop asking for setups.

Every suspension and differential setting in GT7, explained from the driver's seat: what it does, which way to move it, and what you'll feel at the Front and the Rear when you do. About two and a half hours of reading, then a symptom finder and a printable cheat sheet you'll keep using.

  • Blue always means the front axle
  • Amber always means the rear axle

Who it's for

You can drive, you know your way around GT7, and you've probably pasted a car name into ChatGPT or Claude and copied back a list of numbers. This course is for the moment those numbers don't feel right.

  • No engineering background needed. The physics is explained once, plainly.
  • Works for any car: FR, MR, RR, FF or 4WD, road car or Gr.3.
  • Engine tuning, gearing and drift setups are out of scope.

What you need

  • Lesson 1 needs nothing but the game.
  • Most other lessons need Fully Customizable Suspension and the Fully Customizable LSD from the Tuning Shop. On 4WD cars, the Torque-Vectoring Center Differential unlocks the torque split.
  • Gr.3 and Gr.4 race cars usually come with these fitted.
  • A track you know well, and a duplicate settings sheet so you can always go back.

How to use the course

  1. Read lesson 1 first. It gives you the words the rest of the course uses: corner phase (entry, mid-corner, exit) and which end lets go (understeer or oversteer).
  2. Work through lessons 2 to 7 in order, or jump straight to the setting you're fighting. Each lesson covers one group of settings, front and rear, with a diagram, a small interactive toy, a drill to try on track and a short quiz.
  3. Build a baseline with lesson 8 for the car you actually drive: pick the drivetrain, class and track type and get a full starting sheet.
  4. Then tune with the loop: drive three clean laps, name the phase and the end, look it up in the Symptom Doctor, change one thing, and drive again.
  5. Print the cheat sheet and keep it next to the screen.

Starting points, not gospel

Every car in GT7 has its own slider ranges. The numbers in this course are coaching starting points, marked as such, and a few community-reported details are flagged where the official manual is silent. Trust what you feel on track over any sheet, including ours.

The learning path: ten pages in four parts. The first seven teach the settings; the last three put them to work.

Start here

  1. Foundations: how tuning works

Corner phases, understeer and oversteer, weight transfer, where GT7 keeps every setting and which part unlocks it, PP and BoP, and the one-change-at-a-time test loop.

About 15 minutes. No parts needed.

Covers: Car Settings Settings Sheet Measure

Suspension

  1. Ride height & springs

GT7 sets spring stiffness in hertz. How stiff and how low to go for your tires, track and downforce, and how a small front-to-rear difference changes the balance.

    About 15 minutes.

Covers: Body Height Adjustment Natural Frequency

  2. Dampers

Springs decide how far the car moves; dampers decide how fast. What the percentage means, why compression comes before expansion, and how each end shapes braking, turn-in and exit.

    About 14 minutes.

Covers: Damping Ratio (Compression) Damping Ratio (Expansion)

  3. Anti-roll bars

The quickest balance knob in the garage. Why the stiffer end slides first, how the bars share the work with the springs, and why they're the final tweak, not the first.

    About 12 minutes.

    Covers: Anti-Roll Bar

  4. Alignment: camber & toe

Tiny numbers with big effects. How camber trades cornering grip for braking and traction, which way GT7's toe slider moves, and why front toe-out and rear toe-in are the usual pair.

    About 14 minutes.

Covers: Negative Camber Angle Toe Angle

Differential

  1. The limited-slip differential

Why an open diff throws drive away, which Differential Gear Selection to pick, and what each of the three LSD dials does on entry, mid-corner and exit, drivetrain by drivetrain.

    About 15 minutes.

Covers: Differential Gear Selection Initial Torque Acceleration Sensitivity Braking Sensitivity

  2. 4WD & torque split

Two LSDs and a center diff: why the front should lock less than the rear, and how the torque split slides a 4WD car between FR-like rotation and planted understeer.

    About 15 minutes.

Covers: Torque-Vectoring Center Differential Front/Rear Torque Distribution and the front and rear LSD

Put it to work

  1. Baseline setups

A complete first setup for any car in a few minutes, from its drivetrain, class and tires, then adapted for fast tracks, tight tracks and the wet. Includes a baseline picker.

    About 20 minutes.

Covers: every suspension and diff setting, plus Downforce Front/Rear Balance Ballast

  2. Symptom Doctor

Pick when it happens and what the car is doing; get the fixes in the order to try them, with the reason for each and what you should feel. Full tables work without JavaScript.

About 15 minutes, then a reference.

Covers: every suspension and LSD setting, plus Downforce and Front/Rear Balance

  3. Cheat sheet

Every setting on one page: which way to move it, what you feel at each end, and where to start. Prints in two columns.

    Reference page.

Covers: everything in lessons 1 to 9
